USA Track & Field Trials

I spent the end of June shooting the USA Track and Field Trials for the New York Times in Eugene, Oregon. It was a great collaboration between the editors Brad Smith and Becky Lebowitz, and the writers who were on site and in NYC. It was great to work with a team, as the writers generated the stories for the day, which were then passed on to me, photographed, and edited in NY for both the print and web version of the Times. The event was very well run, as the access was very good and there were not too many photographers. It will be a stark contrast to the upcoming throngs of photographers who will descend upon London shortly. For me, the event was also a great opportunity to shoot track and field prior to leaving for London, which I don’t often shoot, yet really enjoy. I like the relative freedom to choose different angles to shoot from, whether it is an elevated position, or from the field of play.

Here are some of my favorites from the week:

Check back over the next few weeks as I head out to London to cover my 7th Olympic games. My goal is to have regular (daily, so please subscribe!) updates to this blog with images that you may not have seen published in the New York Times. Thanks for looking and enjoy!
